Hi, My name is Cathy Wilson and I am the Founder of Life Fixes, thank you for stopping by. I’m sharing my very personal story with you of what inspired me to become a coach.
Chubby, pudgy and chunky were all labels that I grew up with.
As a child and teen, I was overweight teetering on obese. I always thought and worried about how different I looked than other girls my age.
A regular comment I heard from my parents was “You have such a pretty face if only you’d lose weight.”
Ouch, right? Emotional eating was my way to cope with my emotions as a child, I ate a dozen cookies and then rearranged them hoping no one would know. As a teen, I wore a pant suit to the only school dance I ever went to. I suffered from horribly low self-esteem.
As a teen, I desperately wanted to fit into cute clothes and into the popular crowd of my peers. Neither one of those things ever happened for me.
I was always on the outside looking into the life I wished I had.
As an adult, I wanted to be a mom more than anything but I agonized over passing obesity on to my children before I even became pregnant. One day, I vividly remember walking by the television, CNN was covering a report about high predictors to childhood obesity.
The report identified that having one parent that was obese is a predictor. It stopped me cold to hear that fact. My worst fear was playing out on CNN!
I was taking three medications for Type 2 diabetes! A family history of diabetes and my own, I would be passing the dreadful disease to my future children’s gene pool. As well as with all of those unhappy memories, suffering low self-esteem and depression, but I just had to be a mom, it was my dream. I entered into mommyhood wishing for so much more for my sons.
As a new mother, I was committed to do everything I could, I immersed myself into my health and the health of my husband and sons. I became a student of my own healthy choices which extended to my family.
In 2001, I lost 147 pounds and thought that would bring me happiness and fix my life, that losing the weight would make my world perfect. It didn’t!
Reality struck and I had to come to the realization that losing 147 pounds was not the life fix that I thought it would be. I was thinner but my overall life had not changed! I still had the same unresolved issues weighing me down.
147 pounds lighter but now what?
My “now what” was coaching. I worked with a coach and that is what changed my life. With coaching, I dealt with the issues that were at the root of my food issues and overall dissatisfaction in my life.
When I became aware of where I was in my life compared with the life I wanted to live, I was willing to face the issues that held me back and actually move forward so that I could live a happier and more fulfilled life.
My life is completely different than it was years ago. The difference is that I’ve created strategies, changed my mindset, have healthy supportive relationships and approach the things that come up in a much different way. Today, I have a fulfilling life that I would have never thought possible!
As I worked with my own coach, I realized I was born to be a coach. I used to live my life treading water at the surface. With coaching, I was able to scuba dive deeply to see the beauty of life while helping others.
From that day forward, I did everything I could to become a coach! I’ve now been coaching since 2007, I’ve been filled with passion as I’ve coached clients throughout the United States and worldwide.
Coaching isn’t limited to one issue, it is a process to look at all the aspects of life. I created LifeFixes.com to help you through the process. Through coaching, and having the willingness to be honest with yourself, you can live a fulfilling life! Together, we can discover the life fixes you want to make, and design the life you are meant to live.
